Deposited Fear
By:  Shanitria N. Kittrell

 2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP)

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

In the scripture reference 2 Timothy 1:7, it clearly states that God has not given us a spirit of timidity or fear. So where do our fears derive from?

As human beings, it is a natural instinct to want to be connected to other human beings through some form of approval and/or acceptance. So it is not uncommon to want to share our dreams, goals, risky adventures, and desires with others. When this information is shared, it is a guarantee that one of two possible responses will be given, and those two responses are either encouragement or discouragement.

Of the two, encouragement is what is ultimately being sought after, but realistically discouragement is what’s most often received. Have you ever experienced a response such as, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” “Are you crazy?” or “It didn’t work for me, so it won’t work for you.” when sharing your exciting revelations and desires with another? If so, you have experienced what is considered to be a transfer deposit of fear.

Instead of providing feedback from an individualized external perspective, feedback is often given from an internal personal perspective, thus causing a fear deposit into the dreamer. Deposited fear has caused individuals to abandon ship on their hopes, dreams, and desires before they even attempt to venture out, all due to fear of the unknown, or a negative assumption of the projected outcome.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) states, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Rest in knowing that God would never mismanage your life, and your future is important to Him. If God has truly planted a desire, dream, or goal within your heart that will have a positive impact in your life, be confident in your stance, and do so with the power, love, and discipline that God says is yours for the taking. Be steadfast, unshakable, unmovable, and faithful as you walk into your journey of fulfillment and destiny.

Go forth and conquer with ease and no worries, because the only approval you really need has already been given.
